Why is Mahashivratri Important?

Mahashivratri is celebrated with great devotion by millions of mahadev devotees around the world. It is believed that on this night, Lord Shiva did the Tandava, a cosmic dance of creation and destruction. This day also celebrates the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Fasting, saying "Om Namah Shivaya," and offering bilva leaves, milk, honey, and water to the Shiva Lingam are all seen as very important. However, giving to charity on this day is one of the best ways to receive Lord Shiva's blessings.
