About Makar Sankranti
Makar Sankranti is a significant harvest festival in the Hindu calendar, celebrated throughout India. It marks the end of winter and the beginning of longer days due to the sun's northward journey, a period known as Uttarayan, which is considered very auspicious. This harvest festival serves as both a religious and seasonal observance, dedicated to Lord Surya, the Sun God, and signifies the sun's transition into the Makara (Capricorn) zodiac sign.
On this day, devotees take a dip in holy rivers, believing that this act washes away their sins. It is also regarded as a time for peace and prosperity, during which many spiritual practices are performed. In various regions, kite flying is organized as part of the Makar Sankranti celebrations.
